Analog horror is a subgenre of horror that emerged on the internet and has been gaining ground in recent years. It mainly consists of videos made to simulate analog technologies, such as VHS and satellite tapes, in order to generate fear through their glitches, static, and low resolution.

They usually have a macabre background story that can be set between the late 70s and early 2000s, which is why we are discussing this subject. After all, the 2000s were the transition from the analog to the digital world, and it was also the setting for horror stories that use the strangeness and mystery caused by these now outdated electronic devices.

To give you a clearer idea, the video below (credits: VibingLeaf) illustrates the idea well, as it is a revamped version of an old creepypasta with influences from the VHS format, something quite common for productions of this genre.

On the other hand, there is digital horror. This is based on the same principle, but uses technologies from the beginning of the digital age, usually set in the 2000s or early digital age. Resources include digital compact camera footage, DVDs, videos edited in Windows XP Movie Maker, 480p resolution or lower, WordArt, among other related features.
