Games that Came with Nescau

Remember the free gifts that came with Nescau cereal? Nestlé had already done other promotions of this type before, but one of the most notable was certainly the one in 2008. Along with the cereal, there was a CD with a racing-themed PC game.

Life is really curious. In the 2000s, the predominant aesthetic was all dark/emo/edgy, but companies' products seemed to have much more life, while today organizations and the media adopt a colorful and vibrant aesthetic, but lack personality.

A practical example would be the gifts that came with Nescau cereal, such as toys and CDs, something that no longer happens today. Nestlé had already done other promotions of this type before, but certainly one of the most notable was in 2008. Along with the cereal, there was a CD with a racing-themed PC game. There were three options, and if you wanted to have the entire collection, you would have to buy more boxes and hope to not get a duplicate game.

The games in the promotions that year were: GP vs SuperBike, Midnight Racing, and Monster Trux Extreme. The first of these, and more civilized, took place on a race track, where motorcycles and cars live in harmony. Due to the graphics being inferior to today's standards, this game gives a certain feeling of liminal space. A certain emptiness in those scenarios that look more like cardboard. By exploring a little, you could leave the scenario or enter unplanned routes, like random walls where you run the risk of getting stuck. This is something that you don't find in current games.

As for Midnight Racing, this is basically a street race at night... there's not much to say. The last one is Monster Trux, the most adventurous of the three, since it takes place on a dirt road. So free and at the same time so confined, considering that you need to save up a lot of money to be able to buy other vehicles.

In all games the dynamics are more or less the same: you win the races, you collect money to customize the car and enter more races, generating capital turnover and feeding the system. Furthermore, in terms of gameplay, it's best not to be thrown off a cliff or get stuck in a scenario, because any delay is enough for you to never see the other competitors again.

*What happened to him?

Nestlé would do more similar promotions. In 2010, there were four aviation-themed games (Sea Rescue, Air Drop, Arctic Flyer and Fire Rescue). In 2011, there were three Animal Planet games (Air, Land, and Sea). As time went by, the prizes decreased in value, and today it seems impossible to imagine Nestlé doing something like this again. Why have companies become so lifeless?
