What is McBling?
The McBling aesthetic was popular between 2003 and 2008 (for those who don't know, there's an institute that names the predominant aesthetics of each era), and is considered a kind of successor to Y2K. You may not know it by name, but you've certainly seen it in some product, film, or TV series from that era.

The McBling aesthetic was popular between 2003 and 2008 (for those unfamiliar, there's an institute that names the predominant aesthetics of each era), and is considered a kind of successor to Y2K (the millennium bug, the Matrix, Windows 2000, etc.). You may not know it by name, but you've certainly seen it in some product, film, or series from that era. It's characterized by maximalism, shades of pink and silver, the idolization of Hollywood celebrities (Britney Spears), and superficiality...
This aesthetic became especially popular with the film “Mean Girls” (2004), and was present in several others that were successful on TV (especially in Brazil): White Chicks (2004), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), High School Musical (2006), Dr. Dolittle 5 (2009).
This kind of thing can also be seen in “Galinho Chicken”, “Clube das Winks”, and in old Barbie movies Ultimately, this aesthetic is also based on status items (flip phones, iPods) and things considered “trash” (zebra prints).
*What ended it?
It went into decline after 2008, given that the culture was heavily based on Hollywood and the consumerist mentality of the US in the 2000s. Therefore, the real estate crisis, the election of Barack Obama, and the scandals involving Hollywood stars contributed to its demise.
